Tattoo Aftercare
WHAT TO DO:
Leave the bandage on for at least 3 hours. (If you have the Tattoo Bandage leave it on for three days.) As soon as you remove the bandage wash the tattoo with your fingers using antibacterial soap and warm water, then PAT dry. Everybody heals differently, and there are many ways to heal a tattoo. One may work better for you than another. Healing ointments we recommend for the first 3-5 days are A&D Ointment; Aquaphor; a “professional” tattoo healing ointment; any white, non-scented lotion that does NOT contain alcohol, heavy dyes, oils, perfumes or petroleum. When using an ointment of any sort do not apply more than 3 times a day for the first 3-5 days, and only apply a VERY THIN FILM!! DO NOT GLOP IT ON!! You want the tattoo to be protected but it still needs to breathe. After the first 3-5 days we recommend switching to a lotion for the next week to 10 days. Keep in mind that some people also dry heal better than if they use anything.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
DO NOT put Neosporin, Bacitracin or Vaseline on your tattoo!! Neosporin and Bacitracin think that the ink is an infection and will try to pull it out of your skin.Vaseline is petroleum-based and petroleum will smother your tattoo. DO NOT soak your tattoo in water for any length of time until fully healed (at least 10 days). Don’t pick it or scratch it. SLAP IT!! (Picking or scratching pulls off the scabs prematurely and this will pull out the ink.) DO NOT put sunscreen or tanning lotion on your tattoo until it is fully healed. If you have any questions call us at 228-281-2214. DO NOT ask your friends!!
